Blanco White
Blanco White is the guise of guitarist, singer and songwriter Josh Edwards.
Blanco White is the project of Josh Edwards. The choice of name was inspired by Spanish writer, José María Blanco White.Originally from London, Josh went on a trip to Latin America as a young kid aged 10 that began a fascination with the Spanish speaking world. Reading Spanish at University, he later lived in Cádiz (Spain) where he studied flamenco guitar under the guidance of Nono García, before travelling to Sucre (Bolivia) to learn the Andean instrument the charango. Both instruments became centrepieces in the songwriting and otherworldly sound of Blanco White. The identity of the project has continuously evolved since Blanco White’s first releases in 2016, but a reverence for language, the surreal and musical curiosity has been ever-present.
Collaborating with Brazilian co-producer Pilo Adami on sophomore record Tarifa, a growing emphasis on rhythm combines with the reverb heavy and mantric sound of earlier recordings. Following the release of debut album On the Other Side in June 2020, Josh took a two year break away from music to recover from a serious nerve condition. Blanco White returned in 2022 to support José González and Gregory Alan Isakov on tours across the UK and Europe, and new music followed in the form of an intimate EP on healing, Time Can Prove You Wrong - EP September 2023 marked the release of Tarifa, followed by global touring including sold out shows at The Barbican in London, The Troubadour in Los Angeles, Paradiso in Amsterdam and many more.
